David Hall is the Director of San Diego Sports Medicine (SDSM) Pilates Wellness. He is certified in the Polestar approach of Pilates training for rehabilitation, and is PMA-certified ("Pilates Method Alliance"). David also received classical Pilates training through Core Conditioning in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from San Diego State University with a master's degree in Exercise Physiology and spent five years teaching Human Anatomy and Dissection at San Diego State University and Miramar College, and continues to be a provider of continuing education coursework for students. His research study, "The Effects of Pilates Based Training on Gait and Balance in an Elderly Population" was published in the International Institute of Sport and Human Performance, and was presented at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) national conference (Seattle, 1999). David worked in SDSU's Adult Fitness Program conducting maximal exercise testing and developing exercise prescriptions for adults of all fitness levels. Doreen has a diverse background in physical therapy with emphasis in manual therapy. Her clinical experience includes sports and orthopedic rehab, prenatal and postpartum rehab, work with seniors and osteoporosis, and much more. She has been teaching Pilates since 1999 and has found that it is an invaluable tool for integrating awareness and facilitating the body's innate ability to heal through movement. She has worked in San Diego in many different settings, but found her passion in the outpatient orthopedic clinic, utilizing manual treatment, exercise, and postural awareness to improve the function and wellbeing of her patients. Luisa began Pilates for her own enjoyment and self-rehab after a back injury. Realizing the value, she became a Stott-certified Pilates instructor in 2007 and utilizes Pilates as the exercise modality with all her clients. In addition to treating physical therapy patients, Luisa teaches a therapeutic Pilates class at SDSM and has a clientele of private Pilates students as well.

William Taylor, ATC, PTA, OTC
Bill Taylor has worked with the physicians of San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center (SDSM) for many years and is now part of its team as a Physical Therapy Assistant and Certified Athletic Trainer. He has worked in the field of Sports Medicine since 1980, starting with the San Diego Padres' Minor League and working with various teams such as the 1984 Gold Medal Olympic Men's Volleyball Team, San Diego Sockers, San Diego Gulls, San Diego Spirit, and the Oracle-BMW Team for the America's Cup Challenge in New Zealand. Bill has also worked with athletes from the high-school level through the elite competitive level designing rehab, training, and nutrition programs.
Elizabeth Stelter, MS, PT
Liz Stelter practices as a physical therapist at San Diego Sports Medicine (SDSM) Physical Therapy. She received her Master of Science in physical therapy in 1992 from the University of Massachusetts. Living and working in San Diego since then, her specialties include manual orthopedic skills learned through continuing education as well as aquatic therapy, TMJ, and women's health issues.
Kathryn Spurrell, DPT
Katie Spurrell practices as a physical therapist at San Diego Sports Medicine (SDSM) Physical Therapy. She graduated from University of California, Davis in 2007 with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. After working in a laboratory for several years, she decided to return to school to follow her passion for helping others regain function and achieve their goals after injury. Katie received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from University of Southern California in 2013 and has been working in the orthopedic setting ever since. She joined SDSM in April 2018 and is a valuable addition to the physical therapy team. Katie is also a certified weightlifting coach and enjoys helping competitors at her gym improve their form.
Chad Neubrand, MS, PT
Chad Neubrand is a Director of Physical Therapy for San Diego Sports Medicine (SDSM) Physical Therapy. He received his Master of Science in physical therapy from the University of Iowa and has been practicing physical therapy since 1992, specializing in manual therapy and functional exercise. Chad's other specialties include foot biomechanics and custom orthotics, as well as writing and administering specific rehabilitation protocols for post-op hip and shoulder surgeries. He is currently a guest lecturer at San Diego State University Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program.

Katie Rusk practices as a Physician Assistant at San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center (SDSM). She joined the practice in 1982 after she received her master's degree in exercise physiology from San Diego State University. She graduated from Stanford University's Primary Care Program in 1996 as a Physician Assistant. She served as Co-Director and Clinical Instructor of the Stanford University Primary Care satellite program in San Diego for 13 years and is now the Medical Coordinator for the San Diego Firefighter's Regional Wellness Program. Katie provides full-spectrum family healthcare.
Douglas D. Dengerink, DO
Dr. Douglas Dengerink practices as a family medicine and sports medicine physician at San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center (SDSM). He joined the practice in 2012 after completing the fellowship training there. He completed his undergraduate degree at Azusa Pacific University, earned his medical degree from Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his medical training at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Dr. Dengerink is board certified in family medicine with added qualifications in sports medicine. Having worked in the urgent care setting, Dr. Dengerink brings six years of acute care experience to the practice, most recently for Sharp Rees-Stealy. He is currently a team physician for San Diego State University Athletics and the US Olympic Training Center. Dr. Dengerink specializes in sports medicine, musculoskeletal ultrasound and injections, as well as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections.
Shannon K. Cheffet, DO
Dr. Shannon Cheffet joined San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center (SDSM) in June 2013. After completing her undergraduate studies at University of California, Davis, she attended medical school at Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Pursuing her love of both pediatric and adult medicine, she completed a combined residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at Loma Linda University in 2006. She obtained board certification in both specialties. Her career has spanned a variety of interests, which started with her serving for four years as a medical director of a San Diego County community health center system. Her clinical experience has included treating critically ill hospitalized patients at Sharp Memorial Hospital, as well as caring for newborn babies at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns. Bringing her pediatric and internal medicine training to our team, she enhances our philosophy of quality care for the entire family. In 2016, Dr. Cheffet was nominated for the San Diego County Medical Society Top Doctors for Pediatrics.
Alexandra R. Myers, DO, MSHS
Dr. Alexandra Myers practices as a family medicine and sports medicine physician at San Diego Sports Medicine & Family Health Center (SDSM). She finished her Sports Medicine Fellowship with SDSM in July 2014 and joined the practice as a full-time provider on August 1, 2014. Previously, she obtained a BA in Biology and Spanish at Cornell College. She then earned DO and MSHS degrees at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, where she also did an Undergraduate Teaching Fellowship in osteopathic manipulative medicine. Dr. Myers completed her family medicine residency at Downey Regional Medical Center in 2013. She is board certified in family medicine and osteopathic manipulative treatment, with a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine. Dr. Myers is the Director of Women's Athletic Medicine at San Diego State University, and the Team Physician for Santa Fe Christian High School. She also works extensively with San Diego Christian College, Cuyamaca College, and San Diego City College. In addition, she works with USA Rugby, is the Co-Medical Director of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk (along with Dr. Becca Rodriguez), and is the Medical Director for the Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon. She is bilingual in Spanish, and she volunteers annually on medical missions to Mexico with Liga International and to Haiti with Global Health Teams.

He went to medical school at the Des Moines University of Osteopathic Medicine, and he completed his family practice residency at Phoenix General Hospital in 1987. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at SDSM in 1988, and joined the practice immediately after. Dr. Anthony is board certified in family medicine with added qualifications in sports medicine. He is a team physician for the US Olympic Training Center, San Diego State University club sports, San Diego Christian College, Cuyamaca College, and Santa Fe Christian High School. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and adjunct professor at SDSU.
