I became attracted to art at a young age while watching my father work on an abstract art project in our garage.
I received a scholarship to California College of the Arts where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. My instructors Michael Vanderbyl and Michael Manwaring had a major impact on my view of contemporary American graphic arts.
One of my favorite jobs was as an art director for J. Walter Thompson, San Francisco. It was a wonderful time of learning experiences
working under the creative direction of Bill Lane, who had conceived and guided campaigns for Ford and Kodak.
Still searching for more, I interviewed at George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic. After a tour of the model shop, I told Nilo, “I want to work here!” His reply, “So what's the difference between you and everybody else out there?” I decided to see if I could make a difference by making a movie of my own. There came a point during the filmmaking process where I saw everyone's combined efforts come together and form something better than I imagined possible. I became hooked on filmmaking—and no matter what, that respect for movies will always be there.
Then I became a Dad. That's what I like best—enjoying moments with my daughter. But we've talked, and we're going to branch out in new directions.
